Dear Colleagues and interested parties,

the LACOMECO project was  positively evaluated and accepted by the European Commission.

As already announced at different meetings, the  principle objective of the LACOMECO project at KIT is to provide research  institutions from the EU Member Countries (except Germany) and Associated States  access to four large-scale experimental facilities QUENCH, LIVE, DISCO, and HYKA  used to investigate the coolability of a degraded core, corium coolability in  the RPV, possible melt dispersion to the reactor cavity, and hydrogen mixing and  combustion in the containment.

This access is  provided free of all charge to the interested users or user groups and includes  all infrastructural, logistical, technical and scientific support needed to  perform the desired experiments. For the users of the facilities KIT will cover  the travel and subsistence costs of the visits.

Now KIT is ready to announce the first call for  proposals and invite interested organisations to participate in the project.  If you and your colleagues are interested in  participating in the project and perfrom experiments that may help support and  contribute to your R&D needs, please complete the proposal submission form for the access  to LACOMECO and return it not later than April 30, 2010.

Please specify  the facility you want to use, the experimental objectives, requirements and  experimental conditions. Collected proposals will be then evaluated by  independent experts and submitted to the European Commission for justification.  Careful consideration will be given to the features not yet considered in  earlier experiments in these facilities, the recommendations and results of the  SARNET SARP group will be used as guidelines. Authors of selected proposals will  be invited for further negotiations and detailed discussions of the proposed  experiments (time schedule, test parameters, visits to KIT, etc).
